Glowing digital cube surrounded by code files, folders, and data symbols

I recently had a customer who created a SharePoint web template in the browser, saved the template and stored it in solution store as sandbox solution.

Since there was no Visual Studio solution to update and remove features that are not available in SharePoint SE any more, we had to

  • download solution from Solutions gallery,
  • extract the solution
  • Update the feature reference in Onet.xml
  • Repackage the solution.

Repackaging the solution may sound like an easy task, but it turned out that packaging the CAB files also requires something that is called the DDF file, which in essence is the CAB definition file. Because there are no native tools available to repackage WSP, I turned to PowerShell and started investigating.

At the end I created the PowerShell script which is published at:

Please feel free to use it.
